1. What is migraine?
Migraine is described as periodic headaches. Every time the ache is felt on one and the same place in one or both the hemispheres of the brain. The light and the noise around the person make the headache worse.
2. What causes migraines?
Science doesn’t know the exact reason yet. However, there are factors that are known for certain that they cause headache. These are some foods – chocolate and dairy products for example. Other factors are related to your lifestyle – not getting enough sleep, season change and smoking. Changes in hormone levels can also cause migraine.
3. Are hormones the reason why more women than men suffer from migraine?
The levels of estrogen, the most female hormone, affects a woman’s arteries, and that is how it causes migraine. It is interesting to note that the other purely womanly hormone – progesteron, lowers the blood pressure in the arteries. Since the progesteron levels are the highest during pregnancy, it is close to impossible to get a migraine if you are pregnant. Some women get a migraine when they are in the menstuation cycle. This is again hormone-related.
